EXO CUSTOM EARBUDS

This project focused on combining the concept of a studio quality Custom In-Ear Monitor, commonly used by studio and stage musicians, and a standard noise canceling earbuds. Design development led to a copper lattice structure encased in an external layer of silicone. These new custom earbuds were designed around Beats Studio Buds internals.

I also wanted to explore the electroplating process in this project so the copper parts were created by 3D printing base parts, applying conductive paint and plating in an electrolytic solution.

Finally, the custom case was designed to reflect the form language found in the earbuds so the parts were printed in clear SLA resin and coated with a matte clear coat. This gave a translucent effect that hinted at the custom earbuds inside. The front ring was electroplated in copper and copper paint was applied to internal channels in the cover to further reference the elements making up the custom earbuds.
