Concept Racquet
Another student project I did while at Art Center. The concept racquet was an exercise in redesigning the tennis racquet with a focus on improved performance characteristics.
The central concept is a radical departure from the rigid frame racquets found on the marked today. Instead, the concept racquet uses a bowed frame design to keep the strings under a constant pressure. This has the added benefit of thinning down the frame area, massively decreasing the cross sectional area of the racquet frame. This decreases wind resistance and, as a result, increases swing speed.
Additional features include a modular rail based weight system for further tuning the racquet to each individual player. I made a full scale SLA mockup with all the components as well as custom bag for the project.
