Skana VR Camera

VR camera concept that I made which allowed for the capture of a stereoscopic video feed and binaural audio recording. The production concept had a modular design in which two units could be combined to record in non-planer 360 degrees.

The onboard sensor package enabled the recorder to auto stabilize the output audio and video to a VR headset.

This system worked surprisingly well. The video feeds needs to be interpolated in such a way to patch together full left and right images to a VR headset.

The fisheye lens cameras are placed at the average interpapillary distance from each other allowing for the image generation and handoff between cameras to be pretty solid when viewing.

What killed this was the release of the Nokia OZO which is a very similar concept. The OZO was released after about a year of hobby work had been put in to the Skana in 2015. This concept is still being developed into commercially viable products today in 2021 through cameras like the DJI Insta360 Pro.
